God Can’t
I’ve kind of had this new way of thinking lately, and it has really helped me see God a little better. It’s the double negative. There’s such a different view there. For example, “God can’t not be trustworthy.” That’s his nature. It’s impossible for him not to be trustworthy. Somehow, at least in my head, I get a different perspective. He’s so perfect that he can’t do things that are wrong. So… God can’t.
Here are some more I can think of right now:
- God can’t not love me.
- God can’t not protect me.
- God can’t not bless me.
- God can’t not work on many levels.
- God can’t not care for me.
- God can’t not take good care of me.
- God can’t not be there for me.
- God can’t not be perfect.
- God can’t not always be thinking of me.
- God can’t not always be looking at me.
- God can’t not be just.
- God can’t not see everything and know everything.
- God can’t not be with me.
- God can’t not want the best for me.
- God can’t not have a reason.
- God can’t not be the best.
- God can’t not be loving.
- God can’t not be understanding.
- God can’t not be sympathetic.
- God can’t not be supportive.
- God can’t not guide me.
- God can’t not have a plan.
- God can’t not give me peace.
- God can’t not calm the storm.
- God can’t not carry me when I am tired.
- God can’t not be relied on.
- God can’t not be a good friend.
- God can’t not be a great father.
- God can’t not be a great shepherd.
- God can’t not want me to grow.
- God can’t not discipline me in love.
- God can’t not know what I’m going through.
- God can’t not feel what I feel.
- God can’t not count my tears.
- God can’t not be happy with me.
- God can’t not celebrate small victories.
- God can’t not be next to me.
- God can’t not go through the struggles with me.
- God can’t not stay with me.
- God can’t not give me advice.
- God can’t not provide for me.
- God can’t not watch out for me.
- God can’t not be careful.
- God can’t not always come through.
- God can’t not obsess about me.
- God can’t not want to be near me.
- God can’t not be God.
Wow, that’s pretty amazing. That’s like 47 things. This could go on and on. That’s how great God is. I think we get mad at him because we don’t see his higher ways all the time. He understands (he can’t not understand), and he can take that, so it’s OK. He can’t not know our limitations.
See? It just keeps going.
God’s nature is perfect. He is perfection. He is the standard of perfection. There is none greater. He’s at the top. Nothing is above him. Everything is below him. His ways are the highest.
Learning all of this can be tough, believe me. We all fail. We can’t not fail, right? God knows that. He expects that. He’s there to comfort us. So, just relax. Calm down. Know that he is God.
Knowing God is God is resting in all that he is, how perfect he is. Just taking that, meditating on it, and getting that into our heads. That’s so difficult. We can’t comprehend God. He knows that. God’s not out to get us. He is for us. He can’t not be for us. Doesn’t hearing that just give peace? He can’t not be for us. To me, that means more than he is for us.
We think about other people – how they fail us, how they’re not always reliable, how they have faults and let us down. God can’t not let us down. His nature is something we can’t relate to easily because there is no one like God. He is the only perfect one. We have no other examples. That’s why it’s difficult. Everyone else we know has faults and will fail us – even ourselves.
Even in pain, God is working. I’ve had to learn that. It stinks. I hate it. But still, God is God. We’re just stuck with the wrong thinking, the wrong perspective. It’s not high enough – how God sees it. We can’t see his perspective, so we just need to trust him. He is trustworthy. He can’t not be trustworthy.
